Watch Out, She Bites!

Tonight, while I was in the kitchen getting dinner ready, I heard the girls arguing. I allowed it to go on for a little bit, but then I heard Emily starting crying like she was really hurt. I walked down our hallway and saw them both in the bathroom. Lauren had just finished going potty and Emily was trying to put the seat down for her. Lauren didn't want her to put in down so she would put it back up. I can only assume this is what transpired since my only to witnesses are 3 and under. At first, I thought Lauren had slammed Emily's finger with the toilet seat. I saw her thumb looked a little red and I assumed this was why she was crying. Then, I realized what the real injury was. It had been covered by her hair. Lauren bit her on the side of her face!!! The rest of the details can be left to your own parenting styles, if you catch my drift. If you want further info on how I handled it you will have to call me. I will leave you with this.......Lauren went to bed very early tonight. Call me......

I can't believe you took a picture of it!! Planning on showing it to a future husband? How funny. Neat that Sherry Hayes is the same one I knew, she is really, really nice.

Good to know I'm not the only one up late.....
Sherry's great! I can't believe how there really only seem to be 6 degrees of separation between people.....isn't that weird?

That is exactly how Sonia Lopez got the nickname JAWS...she bit ROBIN on the back when they were in Kindergarten...Guess Lauren is JAWS II.

OUCH! I have an autistic son and he is always out to get his baby sister. He has bloodied her nose, pushed her down etc. I have to always be there on the ready when they play together.

Well, I can say with certainty that this would never, ever happen in my house!

(Um, and I can say that with certainty because I have an only child. Seriously, if she managed to bite herself on the face like that, I'd be calling Guiness, or at least Ripley's Believe it or Not! ;) )

Congrats on being the SITS featured blog today! I'm enjoying your posts and off to poke around and read more now!

Cheers!

I was a biter. My poor sister got the majority of my rage...ugh! We love each other today, I swear!

My eldest was a big biter. Yet his indignation knew no bounds when his younger brother turned two and a half, and got the bitey bug... Own medicine? Tasted!

OUCH! Poor thing! I have a biter, too, and it's not pretty. I can relate.

My oldest was a biter. He loved to snack on our little neighbor, Holli (when he was in a 2 year old rage). I was constantly saying, "We use our teeth for food not our friends. Holli is our friend. She is not our food."

To be fair, Holli could dish it out and push his buttons, so thankfully, her mom and I are still friends. We all know that biting is the deadliest sin during playdates! It is usually a fast track to shunning.

I've seen and heard so many kids go through this stage. Thankfully mine never did, but now they are 11 and 8 so I guess it's not too late :)

I remember my nephew for a short time had a chronic problem with biting. No matter what we did he wouldn't stop.

I will leave it to your imagination on how we cured him of this dangerous and painful habit.

Some would not like the technique, but it was getting very serious, he was biting children as well as adults.

My monkey (age 2.5) went through a biting phase, my daughter (almost 5) was mainly the recipient.

When they are determined, they are determined...

It isn't fun, thatis for sure!

Ouch! Funny too though. Kids are such lovely creatures.

My brother was always a bitter. I don't remember being bit on the head, though.

I don't know if it's your kids doing funny things or the way your recount them (or both), but I really like your blog! I'm adding you to my reader.

ugh, there's always that moment when we weigh 'should I let them work it out' vs. 'should I intervene now?' Sorry she had to suffer the bite. It's amazing how siblings can go at eachother.

I've loved reading your Sitsa entries! Your blog is great.

One of my three was a nibbler, but luckily, only to siblings. And me.

My youngest is currently a biter. I hope it's just a teething phase he's going through but he seems to bite when I hold him and he doesn't want to sit still. So, I guess it could be a bit more than a phase. We'll have to break that habit!

Rhea said...

OUCH. Poor Emily. I never really had a biter...but I've heard of them.

Ouch! How is there enough skin there to bite???

All I can say is I hope you didn't bite her back! I have heard of people doing it and I think it's kinda crazy.

Oh how I remember the biting stage. My daughter did it at daycare a couple of times, but she was usually the kid who was bitten.
My son would never bit anyone only be the victim of it. But the two of them together. He would try and bite her more than she would him. Of course she is 6 years older than him and knew better. :-)
Glld luck with that one. :-)

I have two girls (ages 5 and 7)... neither one went through a biting phase. But the older girl is a hitter. She's always smacking her sister! Its to the point now where I tell the little one to smack her back... but she won't do it!!! I don't know what to do with the pair of them...

Oooo. Ouch! We've had similar potty battles before with the wee ones, but thankfully no biting ended it. Usually it was Mommy physically removing them from the bathroom.

Oh yeah... and congrats on being featured!

YWEOCH!!! I know how that is. I used to work at a daycare and there were at least three biters but in different rooms.

Wow, I'm sure I did a lot of not very nice things to my sister growing up, but I don't think we ever bit one another.

Ouch, that's a big bite.

My daughter used to bite. She bit her twin brother that hard one day, that she actually broke the skin.

Dangerous! Wow. My oldest bit me once. On the rear. I cried actual tears. I can't imagine what a face bite feels like!

I'm calling my siblings to thank them for not being biters!

I guess there's a little animal in all of us! I hope she doesn't end up with a scar, but if she does--she'll always have something to hold over her sister's head :)!

Blog said...

Oh my! Let your daughter know that biters are never invited to play dates because it is every mothers fear. Sadly, the end is probably not near. My son was on the school bus coming home from kindergarten and one of his classmates bit in on the face and shoulder. I took pictures too. The child who bite him was a 5 almost 6 yr old!

Maybe they'll be friends by the time they get to college... :)

Ooofta, poor baby! Biting is the worst! My youngest brother was a biter .. I still have a scar on my leg from him. Which I show and remind him of as often as possible. Permanent guilt! :o)

My younger sister also was a biter .. so bad she made me bleed a few times. So when mom wasn't looking I held her over the toilet (she was two) and threatened to flush her. She never bit me again.

It may have been touch and go as youngsters, but we're great chums now. :o)

Yikes! Biting can be so scary! How's she doing now? I noticed that you posted this back last year. Any more biting incidents since then?
